“Economy and Spirit of Defense:
What values will help us
face the threats of the future?”
On Thursday October 17, a symposium was organized by the Auditors of the Institut des Hautes Etudes de Défense Nationale (Institute of Higher National Defense Studies) in the Occitanie Region on the ISAE-SUPAERO (School of Aerospace) campus in Toulouse. The aim of the symposium was to discuss the concepts of values and engagement as well as Social and Environmental Responsibility within the business world.
The event, held in partnership with the ISAE-SUPAERO and CYLAD Consulting, welcomed around 80 people from private business institutions such as Airbus, BNP Paribas and Naval Group, elected officials, the representative of the Head of the Local Education Authority, associations, higher education representatives such as the University of Toulouse, plus civil and military authorities from the Region.
During the first part of the day, workshops were held to discuss the challenges, share good practices and guide future work in the areas of Economy and Spirit of Defense. These round table discussions, led by the CYLAD Consulting teams, examined five main themes: Protection of economic interests, Security, Social, Environmental and Ethical Responsibility.
Charles Champion, Chairman of the Toulouse-Blagnac Airport Supervisory Board and Chairman of the ISAE-SUPAERO Board of Directors and Sébastien Chaussoy, founder and Partner of CYLAD Consulting, fed back the discussions in a plenary session.
The main challenges mentioned include:
- Cyber threats and digital sovereignty, in particular the protection of sensitive data and the need to support SMEs and mid-cap companies in areas that until recently have been the domain of large groups.
- Protection of know-how and scientific excellence, as well as the field of education and skills development in order to remain competitive and innovative against a background of increased international competition.
- A profound change in business models, regarding the defense of environmental, human and citizenship values, with the conviction that in the years to come, business performance will be connected to sustainable, responsible growth.
- Defense of freedom of expression, freedom of movement and the qualities of resilience and commitment needed to strengthen society at every level (citizen, company, local region, nation, etc.).
A publication summarizing all the discussions is currently being produced.
