In the context of high potential talent management in R&D of this pharma and medical product company it turned out that there was a particular need to create a common perspective on R&D portfolio management regarding stakes, trade-offs and decision processes. In particular, there was a desire to illustrate the content through a live case rather than just a PowerPoint presentation.

  • Share industry specific CYLAD perspective on market opportunities and risks, R&D Strategy and basics on portfolio management in R&D
  • Conduct a live case and experiential learning on the complexity of trade-offs in an R&D portfolio and the balancing of strategy, resource and value creation constraints

SITUATION & CHALLENGE

Increasing production rates and number of product variants, together with higher quality requirements, have led to constant delays in production (OTD ~35%). As a consequence, the implementation of new supply chain and manufacturing tools such as Sales & Operations Planning and Visual Performance Management drastically improved OTD and performance in the metal industry.

  • Training of top and middle management on Supply Chain and lean manufacturing concepts: 16 modules of 2 hours; each module customized to particular client context and tightly linked to actual implementation on the floor
  • On-the-job coaching during implementation (e.g., performance reviews, problem solving) and change management phases

SITUATION & CHALLENGE

In the pharma and medical products industry slippage of new product introduction schedules and increase of development costs have led to the need to implement a robust program setup and governance. In particular the organization around project planning proved to be misaligned and operational execution was lacking efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Conceptualize and conduct an internal Engineering Conference for communication of concepts
  • Train middle management and project leaders on the new Way of Working based on a specially developed handbook
  • Conduct on-the job coaching during implementation through execution, performance review and Visual Performance Management (VPM)

  • 12 Visual Performance Management Leaders trained as Change agents and coached (VPM Leader certified)
